Blaine (Captain)
As the patriarch of the family...(hehehe - funny word) ... blaine keeps Tangaroa in tip top condition. He graduated with a license in Airframe and Powerplant on aircraft however, his employment background was working as a yacht engineer on yachts. He was one of the youngest yacht enginneers ever at a ripe young age of 21. After yachting, Blaine opened Carmena Performance, a performance automotive shop where he makes really fast cars - all customized.
On Tangaroa, Blaine loves his engineroom - or at least he will when he is done with it. Blaine has had some great ideaas for Tangaroa including full solar, a Cummins Repower, more fuel capacity and maybe even a kite - YEP A KITE!
Blaine also became a dual citizen when he married Janis. Born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, raised in St. Thomas USVI and imported to Victoria BC Canada!
Janis (Admiral)
If Blaine is the Patriarch - then Janis is the Matriarch of the Carmena Family. Born in Sudbury Ontario and raised in Nipigon, Janis left the day after grad for the West Coaast of Canada to attend Royal Roads Military College. The Navy didn't agree with Janis though so she paid her way out and went to UVIC graduating with a Bachelor of Education.
The year she graduated, her mom died from Ovarian Cancer and well Janis decided to fulfillher mom's dream of sailing around the world and that's what she did!
Starting in Australia Janis sailed on a 43' Hinkley then a 45' custom to Africa then to Brizil and up to the Caribbean where she joined a 187' Schooner as professional crew. She continued her circumnavigation as a First Mate on a 123' sailboat then a 100' powerboat.
After 5 yeaars, she returned to Victoria pregnant and married!
Now after 20 years of beinga police officer in Saanich BC, Janis has returned to the ocean - this time on her own family's boat!
Maggie
People always ask, "What Breed is She?"
Our answer: "MEXICAN SPECIAL!"
Maggie was adopted in 2019 from the Puerto Vallarta SPCA. They had a program, before Covid, of flying rescue dogs to Vancouver BC with tourists and we were lucky enough to become the new family of Maggie.
(Her name was Hope when we adopted her which was given to her by the SPCA!)
As a boat dog - Maggie is PERFECT! She loves riding in the tender and laying out on the deck in the sunshine or cuddling up on the couch in the winter. The only thing she dows not like is when Tangaroa really begins rocking - then you will find her tucked in on the Captain's Chair!
